Three IISc professors awarded "Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award-2013"

The Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize is the most coveted national recognition for young scientists and engineers for their research and development work in India. The prize was instituted in 1957 in honour of late Dr. Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar, an eminent scientist, founder Director and principal architect of CSIR. 

Behind the scenes of Quarks 2- A designer's perspective

On the warm afternoon of August 26, 2013 (Monday), Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam unveiled the second issue of Quarks in front of a crowded audience at the J.N TATA Auditorium. This was at the scheduled interaction session with the former President, moderated by the Assistant Director Prof. Balakrishnan. The members of team Quarks had contacted Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam only two days before the session and he agreed to unveil the most awaited next edition of the magazine. At the occasion, the Assistant Director remarked “When I saw the first edition of Quarks, it was better than any foreign publication, I have ever come across”. After the unveiling, an issue was presented to Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam and the Dean of Engineering.

Freshers Night at SAC

The 2012 batch of IISc UG students organised a party for the students who joined the third batch of the undergraduate program in the Indian Institute of Science. The party started around 18:30 during 15th Thursday this august. Most of the freshers had dressed up in their best clothes and arrived at the Student’s Amenities Center hoping for a wonderful evening after their first week of classes.

UG - Open Day 2013

IIsc opened its gate to the public as part of its Open Day 2013 celebration on 2nd March, 2013. Thousands of people came to IISc, to know what is happening in the premier research insititute in the country.Each Department had its own unique set of events, which were not only entertaining but thought provoking.

Pravega - Science and Cultural Fest@IISc

Pravega is the Science, Tech and Cultural Festival of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Pravega is a 3 day festival to be held from October 25th to 27th. Keep your eyes peeled for updates!

Feburary 17, 2012 - Champions of Mimamsa-2013: IISc, Bangalore Again!

December 7, 2012 - Major and Minor Selected by Batch 2011 Students

Students admitted to the BS course in August 2011 have selected their Major and Minor disciplines. Every student in 2011 batch got his/her first choices for both Major and Minor.

November 7, 2012 - UG Talent Show - 2012

After the succesful 2011 UG Talent Show, UG students organised their second edition of UG Talent Show at the Satish Dhawan Auditorium on November 7, 2011. 

This show portayed the various extracurricular activities of UG students to the IISc Community.This event gained even great appreciation compared to the First edition of the programme.

August 1, 2012 - Quarks, UG Magazine was Released

After UG Talent Show, UG students proved their talent again by relasing the First Volume of the UG Magazine, Quarks. This issue was released on August 1, 2012 by Prof. Chandan Dasgupta, the dean of the UG department after the orientation session for 2012 Batch Students

The magazine was distributed to all faculties, Teaching Assistants of UG programme, and to all UG Students. The magazine received a wide response from both faculties and students in IISc.

August 1, 2012 - 116 admitted in BS 2012 Batch

The admission process for 2012 Batch was completed. A total of 116 candidates (99 Boys and 17 Girls) from all over the country have joined the UG programme on July 31, 2012.

In the 2011 Batch, one student discontinued the programme.

Feburary 12, 2012 - Champions of Mimamsa-2012: IISc, Bangalore!

Of the 142 teams that took part in the prelims of Mimasa, four teams got selected for the finals. After two days of intensive quizzing, the team from IISc Bangalore was announced as the Champions of Mimasa-2012. The team comprised of Pranav Garg, Amogh Anil Kinikar, Sathyawageeshwar S and   Sriram S.

MIMAMSA is the annual national science challenge of IISER Pune. It is one of the most conceptually challenging science competition in the country. It is a two-stage affair. The first stage is a multidisciplinary subjective written exam. The top four colleges selected through this round move into the finals. The finals of Mimamsa is two days of intense quizzing in which the participants try to decipher, discuss and demonstrate the most interesting aspects of science.

Final results were announced on Feburary 12, 2012.  The final standings:

Winners:- IISc, Bangalore.

Runners-Up:- IIT, Kanpur.

November 19, 2011 - UG Talent Show - 2011

2011 Batch Students organised their first event, UG Talent Show at the Satish DhawanAuditorium on November 19, 2011. This show portayed the various extracurricular activities of UG students to the IISc Community. This event was well appreciated by the IISc community and many said it was a good start by the UG students.

August 2, 2011 - 84 Students joined the Inaugural BS Programme

The admission process for 2011 Batch was completed. A total of 84 candidates (66 Boys and 18 Girls) from all over the country have joined the BS programme on July 30, 2011 and August 1, 2011.
